A Small Sark Hotel with an Enviable Reputation
La Sablonnerie is an hotel of rare quality situated in a time warp of simplicity on the tiny, idyllic Channel Island of Sark, where no motor cars are allowed and life ambles along at a peaceful, unhurried pace. The hotel has an enviable reputation for its superb food and wines; local butter, fresh cream, meat, fruit and vegetables which, where possible, are sourced from the hotel’s own farm and gardens. The hotel accommodation is very clean and comfortable and totally geared to unhurried relaxation.
Of course being so close to the sea, freshly caught fish and famous Sark lobsters are popular specialities of the hotel. La Sablonnerie has been featured by the Which? hotel guide as ‘The place to stay in the Channel Islands‘, and also received the highly coveted award from Condé Nast Johansen – ‘Small Hotel of the Year‘. Needless to say you have to visit us to find out exactly what everyone is talking about. Please do not hesitate to call us for reservations or information +44 (0) 1481 832 061.
A truly beautiful island
The magnificent views from the hotel are punctuated with the scents of nature and the calls of wild birds or the buzz of the bees, busy collecting nectar from the abundance of colourful wild flowers.
The small island of Sark lies a few miles from Guernsey and can be reached by boats that make the journey several times a day. The island is approximately 3.5 miles long by 1.5 miles across and offers a wide variety of scenery. Magnificent views reflect the ever-changing mood of sun, sea and sky in clear unpolluted air.
Our restaurant is well known throughout the Channel Islands and many consider it to be the finest eatery on Sark Island, though only the customers can confirm that. However, they do seem to come back often enough, so perhaps there is something in the claim after all.
La Sablonnerie Sark Menu
There are far too many dishes on the menu to feature all of them, but a few that stand out are:
The Roasted Sea Scallops with Garlic Butter, Lobster Thermidor, Caramelised Breast of Duckling with a Green Peppercorn Sauce. Fillet of Home-grown Beef, Spring Lamb and Veal served with a light Madeira Sauce and garnished with a Medley of Wild Mushrooms, or perhaps succumb to one of Chef’s delicious vegetarian dishes. A Crème Brulée with a Montage of Exotic Fruits and Berries is simply delightful.
The Garden is another popular feature of our restaurant. Al fresco dining is enjoyed by many of our guests during the summer months.
The bar is a delightfully comfortable extra lounge with a roaring log fire, and has always been a convivial meeting place for our guests. An excellent service is provided by cheerful, willing staff. Sark people are friendly and the warm welcome in Little Sark is second to none.
Elizabeth Perrée, who owns and manages La Sablonnerie, does not consider it as a luxury hotel, more an oasis of good living and courtesy. Like all owners of true gourmet hotels, she understands the secrets of perfectly combining the ingredients of atmosphere, food and wine. Guests return to La Sablonnerie year after year because of the unique atmosphere of relaxation in convivial surroundings.
