Buckle & Seam, manufacturers and designers of high-quality leather bags, have made a huge committment to child education…
Our special bond with Pakistan and its talented people budded during the year we spent working and living in Karachi. We knew we wanted to do more than just produce our bags there, considering the challenges Pakistan faces we found areas where we could make a lasting positive impact while producing our bags there.
The impact plan is composed of two aspects:
A partnership with Anum School to spread girls’ education in Pakistan and taking care of our workers with fair and empowering working conditions.
ONE BAG ONE CHILD PROGRAM
Most of us take our access to education for granted. For women in Pakistan it remains a big challenge. Anum School was founded 30 years ago thanks to a brave woman who decided to install a medical camp in a neighbourhood where women did not have access to healthcare. She quickly realised the women never received an education and decided to transform the camp into a school. She had to fight for years to legitimate the need for girls education and her little school.
WE DONATE 3% PER BAG SOLD TO ANUM SCHOOL TO HELP SPREAD GIRL’S EDUCATION IN KARACHI, PAKISTAN.
We decided to partner up and help this microcosm improve and spread. How? We committed to giving 3% of our revenue per bag sold to Anum School. Today, Anum school receives more than 141 students per year. They learn how to read, count, and write. They attend history lessons, learn about science and English, but also about basic hygiene, tolerance, and respect. The community is thankful for the opportunity to send their children to school for a minimal contribution.
The Anum school has had such success that all kids that would like to attend cannot be accommodated. Help us in our journey to get our own facility and keep spreading education to as many children as possible. Our goal is to send 10,000 kids to school within the next years!
TAKING CARE OF OUR WORKERS
We are committed to our workers’ wellbeing and are focused on building long-lasting relationships based on understanding and trust. An essential part of this is providing high working condition standards for our teams in Pakistan.
Our teams are paid 3 times more than the market standards, they receive bi-annual bonuses, are all officially employed with working contract and social protection. The ateliers comply with international security standards.
It is part of our journey as a growing company to dedicate time and effort to the constant improvement of our production standards.
